A delicious, nutty tasting blend of sencha and toasted brown rice. Unlike most genmaicha, both the tea and the rice are grown by the same person on Mr. Ohashi’s small farm in Yame. He has not used pesticides for over 45 years and makes his own natural fertilisers.
We recommend brewing this with slightly hotter water than a regular sencha to achieve a balance between the sweet, grassy taste of the tea and the toasted, chestnut-like flavour of the rice.

SIZE OF FARM
PLANTS AND PROCESSING
Blend of Camellia Sinensis Sinensis and toasted genmai (brown rice), Saemidori and Yabukita cultivars. Harvested Spring 2019.
85°C, 3-4g per 150ml. 2 infusions.
When Mr Ohashi first encountered pesticides at agricultural college, his eyes continuously watered and he could not stop coughing. From that day onwards he never used pesticides at his family farm where he grows tea, vegetables and rice including the rice he uses in his Genmaicha. He is so self-sufficient that he built his own large house out of wood which he shares with his children and grandchildren.
The rice that is blended with the tea is grown in front of Mr. Ohashi’s house (pictured below).
