Takahiro Yagi
verdigris
Friday 8th May to Tuesday 12th May 2026

Verdigris is a word for the colour of the patina that forms on copper or brass. It is thought to come from the French term ‘vert-de-Grèce’ which refers to the beautiful green on classical Greek bronze sculpture. In this new series of caddies, Takahiro Yagi has used weathered copper from an ancient Japanese shrine where the roof was being replaced. Using this material from the earth but marked by the heavens for around 100 years, he has created objects which have incredible power but also a purpose. Come and meet Takahiro, one of the people most responsible for the revival of craft in Japan over the last 20 years and the sixth generation of iconic Kyoto tea caddy company Kaikado on Friday May 8th from 5-7pm and on Saturday May 9th from 3-6pm. During these times we will also be serving verdigris financiers by Suzue Aoyama and ambient green tea. Please note that the exhibition continues on Monday May 11th and Tuesday the 12th, but Taka will not be at the shop on either of those days.

No bookings required.
