Anne Holian

Anne Holian is a porcelain artist with a talent for storytelling through illustration. Her designs are hand-painted onto the glazed surface of porcelain and bone china, with on-glaze colours built up in layers using fine squirrel hair brushes to create depth and luminosity. After each layer is applied the item is fired in the kiln to reach a desired result .Every story is inspired by observation of the natural world ─ flowers, birds and animals are a recurring theme.

Anne studied ceramics at the Royal College of Art and painting techniques at Royal Worcester porcelain. She was invited to study drawing with Cecil Collins at the Central School of Art where he described her as a ‘painter from the heart’.

Each of her creations has its own unique story and are housed in a handmade box which reflects the atmosphere of the piece.
