Tea from Mandokoro was almost as famed as Uji tea during the 17th century. It is only tea village or town we have ever visited in Japan that still has tea planted not in rows but in single bushes which a small group of pluckers would surround and pluck together. Today Mr Shirogi is the youngest tea maker in the village and he is in his seventies. We hope by buying this tea we can contribute in a small way to saving this unique and special tea culture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A delicious and unusual whole-leaf roasted bancha, made by Mr. Shirogi in the mountain village of Mandokoro from trees dating back to the early Edo period (1603\u20131867).
