Tak Aoki and his family, who produce tea and oranges in Kitsuki in Oita prefecture on the southern island of Kyushu, have been one of the tea producers we have worked with for the longest time. Soon after we opened we used to sell one of his senchas which was a favourite with customers under the name Aoki Green, but more recently he has completely switched to producing an outstanding tamaryokucha (meaning ‘curved jewel green tea’) a famous tea style found almost exclusively in Kyushu. The leaves, instead of being straight like a sencha, are curly giving this tea its other name: guricha, meaning ‘curly tea’.<\/p>\n

We have received just 10kg made in Spring 2025. Our new Aoki Green is less tangy than previous years, it has a pleasing grassy sweetness, reminiscent of hard candy with a slight tang and nuttiness.\u00a0 Best brewed with 80\u00b0C water and around 3-4g of tea per 150ml cup.<\/p>\n
