A fragrant black tea made by Mr Iizuka in Sukemune, near Fujieda in Shizuoka, one of Japan’s premier tea growing regions.
While more and more farmers are pivoting to black tea production in Japan, Mr Iizuka has been making it since 1977 with the aim of producing a great black Yabukita – a common cultivar usually turned into green tea.
Like our Supernatural Black, another great black tea made from Yabukita, this is an extremely versatile tea: when made light it has a crystallised plum and cherry blossom sweetness that makes it easy to drink black, but when pushed it has enough body and richness to stand up to milk. Best made with about 3-4g/150ml and with water just off the boil
