Yunomi (Hagi)

A pottery yunomi handmade by Noritada Kimura, a great Kyoto potter.

As a Kyoto potter Noritada has a freedom to make ceramics in many different styles, and this is his take on the famous Hagi-yaki which originates in Hagi in Yamaguchi prefecture using a kohiki-style technique. The yunomi is rustic in appearance with a rough texture and small inclusions in the clay, with fain patches of white slip. Due to the nature of this style of pottery, water may seep through during use and change the appearance of the clay. This can be stopped easily by soaking in water that has been used to boil rice or cornstarch, which will plug any gaps.

Dimension: 9.5cm height x 8cm diameter. Volume: ~250mls
