The Lawa have lived in the north of Thailand since at least the 8th century. Today less than 18,000 remain as many have intermarried with the Thai population and moved away from their ancestral homes. The Lawa are skilled artisans and their beautiful black and white hand-woven ikat cloth is a good example of this artistry.
